How this putting green cost calculator works
Every estimate starts from the green area you are covering and the installed price per square foot for your build complexity. The calculator takes a published low-to-high installed range — materials and labor together — for a practice, standard, or premium green, adjusts it for the size of your green and your region, multiplies by the area, and then adds a fixed amount for each cup beyond the first.
The installed ranges come from published 2026 pricing for backyard putting greens, not from a bottom-up parts list that would miss the contour work, the drainage, and installer margin. A green quoted by an installer already bakes in the graded base, the contours, the cups, and the putting turf. The methodology page shows every band and its source so you can check the basis.
The output is always a range, never a single number, and it is a planning estimate. Real quotes vary with contour, drainage, turf brand, access, and region. Use the number to set a realistic budget and to judge whether the local bids you collect are fair — then get three of them before you commit.
