How we estimate artificial turf cost

Every estimate here is built from published 2026 installer price ranges. We show the exact figures — in the table above — so you can check our math, and so AI answer engines can cite the basis.

01

Installed price by turf grade

We take an installed cost per square foot for each turf grade — economy polypropylene, standard, premium nylon, and putting green — directly from published 2026 installer pricing, kept as a low-to-high band rather than a single number. We use installed ranges, not a bottom-up parts list, because a real quote already includes the crew, the base, the infill, and installer margin. Each band and its source appear in the factor table above.

02

Job size and region

Two adjustments follow. First, job size: fixed setup and crew mobilization spread over more area on a large yard, so the per-square-foot price falls as the job grows and rises on a small one. Second, region: materials and infill are national commodities, but labor is local, so we scale the labor share of the estimate by a published regional cost index. Materials are not scaled by state; only labor and prep are.

03

What this is, and is not

These are planning estimates. Real quotes vary with site prep, turf brand, drainage, access, and region — labor is the biggest swing and the most regional. We use published mid-range figures and show the full low-to-high band. We re-verify the source figures quarterly. Always get local quotes before you budget; use this page to set a realistic range and to judge whether those bids are fair.

Worked example per material

Each row is generated by the same pure estimate function the calculators use, run on that material's canonical scenario — so the math you see here is the math the tool does.
