The honest maintenance reality
The big appeal of artificial turf is real. You will not mow it, water it, feed it, or reseed bare patches. That removes the weekly grind of a living lawn, and over a hot summer it removes a large water bill too. If you want to see how those savings stack up against the install price, the cost calculator has a water and running-cost view.
But low maintenance is not no maintenance, and it helps to hear that plainly. A turf lawn still collects dust, leaves, and pet mess. Its blades still lie flat where people walk. The infill that keeps it standing still settles and thins over time. If you ignore all of this for years, the lawn will still be there, but it will look tired, matted, and grubby well before it needs to.
The good news is that the work is light and occasional. Think in terms of a quick pass every few weeks and a proper refresh a couple of times a year. A well-kept synthetic lawn can look good for a long time, often fifteen to twenty-five years, and simple upkeep is a big part of reaching the top of that range.
